I can't understand why it's necessary to have supermarkets open on the 4th. Why is this day--one that is supposed to celebrate the greatness of our nation-- a holiday for some and not for others? Double-pay or not (which does not happen in all circumstances), a day at work is a day at work. Especially considering the circumstances of this pandemic, wouldn't it have been nice as a symbolic thank you to all of the essential grocery workers to give them a federal holiday off? And wouldn't it have had a dual purpose to socially distance workers from customers and likewise, even if only for a day?  I call out facetiously: can people not plan ahead!? Or more accurately: do supermarkets not have enough money as is?!
